In the last few years, the demand for DJ has shot up hugely across countries and cultures. With the coming of new technology, even a person from a non-technical background can become an expert DJ in a matter of few weeks. However, you need proper tools to support you in your endeavor. Find out about some of the top equipments that you need to become a DJ.
What Equipment Do You Need to DJ?
Choose a laptop from a good brand that will not crash in the middle of a gig. Today, you can find powerful laptops for DJ mixes that come with all the necessary features and come at an affordable cost. You may consider going for a Macbook that offers the best performance, consistency and stability. These are great value for money computers that are not as virus prone as Windows PCs.
Demo DJ Software
These are trial versions of DJ Software that let you try before buying the full version. You can find many DJ programs for free on the web, but these do not offer the functionality of paid or premium programs. Traktor, Virtual DJ etc are some of the freely available programs which offers skins similar to actual mixers, sync mixing features, beat mixing features, playlist controls and more.
You need to plug the laptop to a mixer, and draw the speaker output. Mixers are quite low in cost, and you can buy them from any music store in your area. It would be great to look for a 4 channel mixer.
You can get these along with the purchase of some DJ software programs. With external USB sound card, you can separate the Right and Left channels. If you lack an USB external sound card, you have to use the “Headphone” jack or “OUT”, and then run one-eighth inch out from your PC to one-fourth inch on the mixer into Channel 1.
You need Active or Powered speakers, which have to be plugged in to the laptop to get the music. In case you find non-powered or passive speakers, you will require isolated amplifiers plugged to your mixer. Powered speakers are costlier to buy, but can offer more punch to your music. You can also make the entire setup of your DJ music much easier.
You will also require dual XLR cables. You need to plug the female end out of your mixer and into the Right/Left outputs of your speaker. If you can afford, purchase two speaker stands as well.
