Being able to play guitar is one of the greatest joys for anyone who loves music. However, before you start with your guitar lessons, it is important to know how you should have your guitar tuned. For any beginner, it is possibly the most essential skill to have. Without a tuned guitar, you cannot play the tracks of your choice or even strum your guitar. This can come in your way of learning guitar. Here are some easy ways to tune your guitar.
How to Tune a Guitar For Beginners
Use an electronic tuner
You can buy it from any guitar store or even from any good music store. These are small and economically priced tuners, and can save you plenty of time and hassles. If you cannot find an electronic tuner, you need to trust on your ear or hearing skills to tune your guitar. If you ignore it, you will soon come across a roadblock in your guitar playing sessions.
Adjust the string pitch
It is part of the actual guitar playing process, and can help you in playing the right notes. You can make the adjustment by loosening or tightening each tuning peg that is located on the head stock. Give a clockwise turn to the tuning peg, which can help tighten the string pitch. A counter-clockwise turn can loosen the tuning peg and reduce the pitch. This is the easiest way to tune a guitar.
Hit individual strings
There are 6 strings in any guitar, with a different pitch and size in each. In traditional tuning, the strings are:
- 1st string or Bottom string – E note (the highest and thinnest sound)
- 2nd string – B note (Lower sounding and slightly thicker)
- 3rd string – G note
- 4th string – D note
- 5th string – A note
- 6th string – E note (Very low, but the thickest note)
You have to strum the individual strings, and adjust yourself to the sound produced by every string.
Borrow a pitch
You need to have a pitch borrowed from some other instrument to start tuning your guitar. You can borrow it from a pitch fork or any instrument that you can find. You may also get it by making a Google search with the terms “guitar tuning”. After getting the pitch, you can use the note to tune the remainder of your guitar. After getting the E note from the internet, you can hum with it until you find your voice corresponding to the note.
